Is your wooden chair in need of restoration? Then there’s no need to worry it doesn’t take much to bring it back to it’s original state as long as you have a eye for detail and can follow a few simple steps you can have your wood chair looking as good as the day you purchased it.
Make sure you have rubber gloves as you will be using chemicals and if you decide to do this job indoors than a respirator will be needed as well. The first step is to use a furniture stripping chemical,pour a generous amount onto a rag and starting from the top of the chair rub the stripper into the wood and work your way down to the bottom. If need be use a fresh rag if you think you need to ad more stripper to the chair making sure you don’t miss any part of the wood while working your way down.
Allow the chemical to dry for at least an hour and wipe away any residue that is left on the wood. Next have a good look at the wood to see if there are any holes or scratches that are visible if so, use a wood putty or filler to cover and repair. Let the filler set for an hour and sand it down to a smooth and even surface following the shape of the wood, then wipe away any debris or dust with a clean rag. Now you can use a furniture stain and pour it onto a fresh rag and starting from the top rub this into the wood and work your way to the bottom of the chair making sure not to miss any part of the wood on the way down and then let it set overnight Repeat this step again for a second night.
The next and final step is to use polyurethane and spray this onto the chair, do not spray to close about 6 to 7 inches away from the wood, spray with even strokes so not to cause any runs or build up in the one spot, start from the top and work your way down to the bottom, let it set for an hour or two or until you feel it has dried and with a clean rag give the chair a lite buff and your wood chair should look as good as the day you brought it.
